THE CADET FORCES MEDAL

Obverse: A Crowned Effigy of the Sovereign.

Reverse: The inscription "THE CADET FORCES MEDAL", and a representation of a torch.

Size: 36mm in diameter.

Ribbon: 32mm wide, the ribbon is green with, from the left, a 5mm yellow stripe, a 3mm dark blue stripe and a 1.5mm crimson stripe, and from the right a 5mm yellow stripe, a 3mm light blue stripe and a 1.5mm crimson stripe.

Suspension: By a plain straight suspender.

The Cadet Forces Medal was instituted on 1st February, 1950, and was awarded to officers who had served twelve years' continuous service in any of the three services while attached to the Air Training Corps, Sea Cadet Corps or Army Cadet Corps. Bars were awarded for further periods of twelve years' service.

With the introduction of the New Zealand Cadet Forces in 1970, officers were granted a Cadet Force Commission rather than the Queen's Commission, and are also eligible for this award. The qualifying period for a bar to the award was, in 1989, reduced to eight years.
